1. Honesty. Always do the honest thing. It makes employees feel like they know where they stand with you at all times.
2. Focus. Know where you're going and have a strong stated mission on which to lead people. If you're not sure, how can your people be sure? You have to have strong focus and stay the course.
3. Passion. Whatever it is, you must have passion for what you're doing. Live, breathe, eat and sleep your mission.
4. Respect. Not playing favorites with people and treating all people -- no matter what station in life, what class or what rank in the organizational chart -- the same.
5. Persuasiveness. People have to believe in you and your credibility. Image is everything, and the belief people have in you, your product, your mission, your facts or your reputation is key to being a great leader. You have to persuade people of this -- it doesn't just happen.

Detroit Business Consulting (DBC) Awaits Nomination Results
Detroit Business Consulting (DBC) was nominated in the spring as one of Detroit's Top Workplaces of 2011. The entire company took surveys in June that covered every aspect of the company, employee satisfaction, and management styles. The results of these surveys will determine the ranking for the company in August when the results are announced. The nomination itself is a huge honor, but we are definitely excited to see the results when they are released!

Detroit Business Consulting is Learning in Canada!
Detroit Business Consulting is traveling again! Our company attends conferences throughout the country every few months, but we rarely travel outside of the country to do some learning. Although owner Mike Rosenberg did visit London for a week earlier this year and the entire management team is heading to Puerto Rico in September, we usually only leave the U.S. for pleasure instead of work.

Mike will be in Montreal, Canada from Friday through Tuesday for conferences. He will have the opportunity to meet and consult with other top executives from both the United States and Canada. Mike is the only person from the company attending this conference, but the whole office just returned from Nashville, TN two weeks ago and will be heading to Chicago in a few months for more learning there!

Going South to Nashville!
Everyone is very excited for our trip to Nashville this weekend! We will be leaving early Friday morning and returning Sunday night. There has been extensive planning for this national conference, so be prepared to take lots of notes and enjoy a motivational and informative weekend!

This conference is for multiple sales and marketing companies across the nation and will have meetings for every department in the company- administration, sales & marketing, and management. Don't forget about the award ceremony and cocktail dinner on Saturday evening! There will be wonderful food and it's a great opportunity to network with other companies.

High Roller's Room!
Last night's office night was definitely one to remember! The managers rented out the High Roller's Room at the Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak. We had unlimited private bowling, shuffleboard, pool tables, and a buffet of catered food. The High Roller's Room is above the normal bowling lanes and the movie theaters. We had private TV's that were broadcasting the Heat v. Mavericks game and music played all evening.

Each week we do something different for office night. It gives us a chance to get together outside of the office to get to know each other better and have some fun!

Expanding to Philly!
It's very exciting to work in a company that is successful and growing, but it's even more exciting to work at a company that is successful enough to expand into new markets as well! We are proud to announce that we are finalizing our expansion to Philadelphia and will be ready to open in July! This is the thirteenth market Detroit Business Consulting has expanded to since opening in 2007. Our current assistant manager, Krystal will be heading up the campaign in Philly. She will focus on finishing her management training throughout the rest of June and will also be going to Nashville for more management training at the end of the month. We are excited for this new chapter of the company!

DBC Supports the Mutt March
We have another charity event in the works! Our company will be participating in the Michigan Humane Society's Mutt March next Sunday, June 5th. The march starts at 8:00 a.m. at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe. The Michigan Humane Society helps care for over 100,000 animals each year, so this event will help raise money and awareness for their cause.

Our company has been advertising the event for a few weeks, so some people are making donations while others are walking with their pets. For more information about the event, see Tarryn in Human Resources since she is in charge of this charity event for our company. Be sure to check out our philanthropy page to see our other charity events!
