Detroit Business Consulting Celebrates 2012!

It's hard to believe that 2012 is almost over!  We have one more month to hit our goals before setting new ones for 2013.  Looking back at the year, Detroit Business Consulting owner Michael Rosenberg celebrated his 5 year anniversary of running his company, our firm took on two new clients and have built strong relationships with them, and Detroit Business Consulting was named Metro Detroit's 5th Place to Work by the Detroit Free Press! As a company, we were fortunate enough to be able to give back to the community by supporting events like the Algonac Athletic Fundraising Event, as well as the Susan G. Koman Fund.

This past year has been an eventful one, and Detroit Business Consulting is excited about the adventures that 2013 has in store!

Detroit Business Consulting Raises Money for Susan G. Komen Foundation

Detroit Business Consulting celebrated breast cancer awareness month by hosting our Passionately Pink Week last week.  This is the second year that we have hosted Passionately Pink Week in our office. We went all out- the website was "pinked out" with our pink logo, breast cancer ribbons all over the website, and each page had a pink theme.  Everyone in the office wore pink on Thursday, and we all sported pink breast cancer bracelets.

Everyone at Detroit Business Consulting could show their support by wearing pink last week, but we also had another way to support the foundation.  Detroit Business Consulting's owner Michael Rosenberg announced on Monday that he would make a $20 donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation each day for every person that hit their sales goals for the day.  Michael committed to making that donation for every person, every day last week.  Thanks to everyone for your support in making out Passionately Pink Week a success!

Detroit Business Consulting Golfs in Phoenix

The President of Detroit Business Consulting Michael Rosenberg is spending the weekend in Phoenix, AZ where he is enjoying some "work hard, play hard" activities.  He met up with other consultants from around the country for a fantasy football draft and some networking time.  Although the draft is tomorrow, the group met today for a game of golf, which will give them time to talk about the offices and future expansion.

It's safe to say that Michael deserved some time on the golf course in beautiful Phoenix.  His company recently expanded to its 21st location and ranked second in the nation in sales for his company's telecom client. With the European expansion beginning at the end of this year, Detroit Business Consulting has some big goals to hit for the remainder of 2012!

Detroit Business Consulting Will Attend Super Bowl XLVII

It may only be preseason for the NFL, but our company already has plans to attend Super Bowl XLVII. Detroit Business Consulting owner Michael Rosenberg announced a competition earlier this week that will run from August 1st though December 31st for prime tickets to the Super Bowl! Four managers will be attending the event with Michael in New Orleans.  The competition is based on 4 aspects of the business that are key to the success of a company.  They encompass the growth, training and production of the companies. Weekly updates will be sent out as the competition progresses.  GOOD LUCK!

Detroit Business Consulting, Inc. Supports Algonac School

Detroit Business Consulting supported the Algonac athletic program last weekend at their fundraising event.  Four of the guys from our office played in the scramble on Saturday, which supported the Algonac football, volleyball and track teams.  Detroit Business Consulting sponsored the 14th hole and won a prize in the silent auction.  The guys had a great time participating in the scramble, and got involved in the event because John Vance, one of the Account Managers in the office, graduated from Algonac and participates in the event each year.

We came away from the fundraising event with a few prizes; an Algonac High School football helmet, a plaque for being a Gold Sponsor, and other Algonac paraphernalia.  With how much fun these guys had last weekend, it's likely you'll see Detroit Business Consulting at the event next year.

4 Things Great Leaders Do Best

1. Serious time management. The most notable characteristic of transcendent leaders is their ability to be resolutely in the moment. Seemingly untroubled by overflowing inboxes, unhurried by over-scheduled calendars, not distracted by ever-growing to-do lists, the best leader seems to always have time for the task at hand.

2. Prioritization. Great leaders are highly focused, but they also focus resolutely on the right things. They're skilled at the art of triage; they can prioritize many demands, and always ensure they spend their limited time on those issues that are central to the enterprise's needs.

3. Crisis management. Even a strong leader can buckle in a crisis. Blindsided by the unexpected, it's easy to get caught up in the gravitational pull of a sudden emergency and lose sight--and control--of the rest of the organization's needs.

4. Delegation. Finally, the best leaders are masters of delegation.
Acutely aware of their own limitations, and driven by the knowledge that they can't possibly do everything they're asked, the transcendent leader entrusts tasks to others not by exception, but by default.

Detroit Business Consulting is at the Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Detroit Business Consulting owner Michael Rosenberg is currently in Los Angeles for business and pleasure.  The trip is twofold; he was at the Stanley Cup Playoffs last night and will be at the game tonight, and he is spending time learning and networking with other successful entrepreneurs. Since Mike played hockey at Georgia, it has been a long-time goal of his to see the Stanley Cup Playoffs live. Mike invited two other colleagues on the trip as a reward for them for their hard work.  While in L.A., the guys will be enjoying some intense hockey, but also visiting other sales and marketing firms that have been dominant in the industry. The trip encompasses a healthy mixture of fun and learning!

The managers earned this excursion to go to the Olympics and enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip by setting records in their sales and setting an example through their management techniques!

Detroit Business Consulting Learns in Sunny Malibu!

Detroit Business Consulting was able to send Elizabeth to Malibu last week for some hands-on training at one of the largest outsourcing companies in the world. The trip was both fun and learning-based and she had the opportunity to network with 10 other top administrators from around the country.

Friday was spent doing brain-storming activities, learning scenarios on how to be a better coach and mentor, and question and answer sessions with some of the top executives in the business.  Saturday, the administrators were treated to a day at The Dry Bar in Hollywood where they got their hair done and then were chauffeured in a limo to dinner at Asia de Cuba.  Since we have a strictly merit based business, we enjoy rewarding people for their hard work.  We will definitely be planning another fun trip soon!

Detroit Business Consulting Learns in "The Burgh"

Detroit Business Consulting owner Michael Rosenberg spent time last week in Pittsburgh where he was attending a conference for one of our company's main clients. The Fortune 500 company held an information conference for the companies they outsource their work to and also gave recognition to the top performers. After a day of learning, the owners were wined and dined on a dinner cruise on the rivers of Pittsburgh. It was a great opportunity for the owners to network with each other as well as with the client.

Detroit Business Consulting Takes on New Client and Expands

This is an exciting week for our office; we are taking on a new Fortune 500 client that we started working with this week and we opened our new Philadelphia location yesterday! Due to a need from the companies we represent, we have expanded to our 19th location since we opened less than 5 years ago. Our last expansion was to Cincinnati, Ohio, which has been extremely successful since opening. We have a lot of growth going on in our office right now and we are ready for the next big thing!

Detroit Business Consulting, Inc. Wins Golf Scramble!

This weekend we had our 2nd Annual Rosey Golf Scramble at Sanctuary Golf Course in Sterling Heights, MI. There were twelve teams that participated in Saturday's event, but only one team took home the trophies.  The scramble went into an intense overtime between the Grand Rapids team and the Troy & Atlanta team, and the Troy & Atlanta team pulled off the win! John Vance from Detroit Business Consulting got a hole-in-one on a par 4, which made the day all the more exciting!

The golf scramble was part of the annual Rosey Org weekend in Troy. The weekend consisted of conference-style learning on Friday, the golf scramble on Saturday for the guys, a wine tasting for the ladies, and a charity event at Emagine Theatre on Saturday for Donate for Life. It was a full & fun weekend for everyone!

Detroit Business Consulting is at Comerica Park for Tigers Opening Day!

The Detroit Tigers played their opening day game last Thursday at Comerica Park! Since this is such a popular event in the metro Detroit area, we had a two week competition in the office for tickets to go to the game. Ryan, Mike and Elizabeth earned the tickets and got to watch the game four rows behind the dugout in left field! It was a beautiful day for a game and they even pulled off a win to start the season.

What are the next tickets we will be giving away? It looks like we will be getting some Red Wings tickets again this year; their playoffs start tonight!

9 Things You Should Never Say to Your Boss

Saying the wrong thing to your boss can do serious damage to your career -- and some of the things bosses don't like to hear may surprise you. We checked in with some managers and came up with this list of nine phrases they strongly dislike -- and we'll tell you what you should say instead:

1. "I need a raise."

Never enter salary negotiations talking about what you need; a raise request should always be supported by evidence of what you've achieved for the company.

2. “That just isn’t possible.”

Always speak to your boss in terms of what can be done.

3. “I can’t stand working with ____.”

Complaining about a coworker's personality usually reflects more poorly on you than on the coworker. Don’t make these kinds of conflicts your boss’s problem.

4. “I partied too hard last night -- I'm so hung over!”

Buck up and get through the day with some ibuprofen, extra under-eye concealer and coffee. But don’t share the sordid details of your night on the town with your boss.

5. “But I emailed you about that last week.”

Alerting your boss to a problem via email doesn't absolve you of all responsibility for it. Bosses hate the "out of my outbox, out of my mind" attitude.

6. “It’s not my fault.”

Are you a whiny 8-year-old or a take-charge professional? Assume responsibility and take steps to fix a problem that you did, in fact, create.

7. "I don't know.”

If your boss asks you a question you can’t answer, the correct response is not "I don't know." It's "I'll find out right away."

8. “But we've always done it this way."

You may find yourself with a new boos who wants to try new things -- and the best way to present yourself as a workplace relic is to meet change with a "we do it this way because this is the way we do it" attitude.

9. “Let me set you up with...”

Avoid the urge to play matchmaker for your single boss. The potential risk far outweighs any potential benefit.

Detroit Business Consulting (DBC) Attends Conferences in Atlanta

The management team at Detroit Business Consulting spent last week in warm Atlanta where we learned from some of the best in the business. It was an educational and entertaining week!

The keynote speaker was Eric Greitens, a navy seal who served time overseas for the war and is CEO of The Mission Continues, which helps veterans find a way to serve their community and country after they return from war. Eric spoke about the vigorous training that someone goes through to become a navy seal and how it tests them mentally and physically.

Other speakers focused on the successes of 2011 and the goals of 2012. We discussed new clients that had breakout sessions for more specified training. We were also entertained by Cirque du Soleil in between speakers and Saturday evening was full of fun games and networking.

Our next conference will be in March in Indianapolis. Details to come!

Detroit Business Consulting (DBC) Has Office Competitions!

December was full of office competitions and prizes! The "December to Remember" and "Jingle Bells and Beyond" competitions wrapped up at the end of the year. All of the prizes were awarded this week, but that doesn't mean we have any reason to slow down the momentum in the office! Two people earned trips somewhere in the U.S. Other prizes included a conference call with a national consultant, double pay for the day, and more.

We currently have the Bowl Pick'em competition going on in the office. Updates are posted each day after a game, so check out the rankings in the office.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
